SKY
You may or may not be aware of this publication sent by sky.
As well as the article below, did you realize that a few years ago sky introduced a magazine that cost you £1.50 a month even if you did not want it. So in fact put your cost went up by that amount . If you tried to refuse there magazine then you were told you can not it is part of your package. Just another example how we get pushed around by big business and what do out Government do about it NOTHING as usual. But this article below depicts the state of complacency that exists with Britain today. I wish We All would stand up for our rights Yes All of us. I hope you use the links provided at the bottom of this article to report this.
Re: Sky TV, please pass on
If you are a Sky Television customer you might want to be aware of this.
In the December issue of the Sky magazine, Sky announced a change to the
way they handle the information they have about you. Here is an extract
from the announcement.
"Information held by the Sky group about you may also be shared with other
companies outside the group, including for sales, marketing and market
research purposes by such companies, unless you indicate that you wish to
be excluded from such uses by contacting us on 08702 40 40 40."
This change was printed on a loose A5 sheet of paper, like other magazine
inserts that usually get thrown away, and could easily be missed. In a nutshell it seems,
1/ Despite any preferences you have stated before, Sky have now assumed
the right to share your personal information with third parties.
2/ Sky have announced this change in a way that can easily be missed.
3/ If you wish to be excluded from this you must contact them on a premium rate number.
Please check this out for yourself, you may want to contact Sky to ensure they will not share your personal information. If you are happy with the announcement, I'm sorry to have wasted your time.
If you are concerned about how Sky handle your personal information you can make a complaint to the Information Commisioners Office. There is an online complaints form at www.ico.gov.uk.
You could also raise this with the trading standards office
http://www.essexcc.gov.uk/vip8/ecc/ECCWebsite/dis/cha.jsp?channelOid=16786
or via email trading.standards@essexcc.gov.uk
Please pass this on to anyone who may be affected.
Rather than pay the "extortionate" 08702 404040 number, and if you
have "free 01 & 02 calls" you may ring Sky's main switchboard on
0207 705 3000. If you ask for "Customer Services" the Sky operator
will tell you "I cannot connect you from this number".
However, if you persevere and tell them you require your name etc.
to be removed from their marketing list, they will connect you (I
think they have to under the data protection act - this is their
head office switchboard).
