A small section on the History of Cornwall.( The Stone age)From 4500BC, the date of stone tools found in the County. There is also the remains of a Stone age settlement at Carn Brea near Redruth.

The name Cornwall comes from Corvonii, meaning hill dwellers and Waelas, meaning strangers.

(BRONZE AGE) Around 2500 BC a trade started growing with tin and copper to foreign shores. The traders brought Bronze tools and gold ornaments, to exchange for the minerals. The remains of these Bronze age villages can still be seen on Bodmin Moor, and other places in the County.

(The Celts) Around 1000 BC a group of warrior like settlers arrived in Cornwall From Europe. These were the Celts. They brought knowledge of forging iron into weapons . These Celts are the ancestors of modern Cornwall .The best known Iron age settlement is at Chysauster near Penzance.

(The Romans) The Romans landed in Britain in 55 BC but had little or no influence in Cornwall.the last major Roman settlement was at Exeter. So The Cornish were left to themselves.

(Middle Ages) When the Romans left Britain. Cornwall became under Saxon influence, following the Norman conquest ,this is when the first intergration of Cornwall into Britain took place.((they have a lot to answer for )(my opinion)) Cornwall was given to Robert half brother of William who made his headquaters in Launceston . The first Duke of Cornwall was Edward, the Black Prince.

(Gorgian and Victorian age) The invention of the Steam engine in the 18th century and rapid development in the 19th lead to advances in Mining, But by the middle of the 19th Century vast deposits of tin and copper were found abroad. and the deep mines of Cornwall became uncompetitive and so began the decline of the Mines, and the last Mines are now closed.

(Modern Times ) Now that the mines are closed and the fishing industry (we are told ) is fished out. there is little in the way of Industry in Cornwall. But its mild climate sandy beaches, open moorland and coastal walks. Has now kept a year long visitor industry alive.

GOD BLESS CORNWALL

TRELAWNY

The "National Anthem" of Corwall, based on The Song of the Western Men, by R.S. Hawker

Trelawny

A good sword and a trusty hand!
  A merry heart and true!
 King James's men shall understand
   What Cornish lads can do!

And have they fixed the where and when?
  And shall Trelawny die?
 Here's twenty thousand Cornish men
  Will know the reason why!

  Chorus: And shall Trelawny live?
   And shall Trelawny die?
  Here's twenty thousand Cornish men
    Will know the reason why!

Out spake their Captain brave and bold:
  A merry wight was he:
'If London Tower were Michael's hold,
  We'd set Trelawny free!

'We'll cross the Tamar, land to land:
   The Severn is no stay:
 With "one and all," and hand in hand;
And who shall bid us nay?

  Chorus:
   And shall Trelawny live? ,
 etc.
'And when we come to London Wall,
 A pleasant sight to view,
Come forth! come forth! ye cowards all:
Here's men as good as you.

 'Trelawny he's in keep and hold;
  Trelawny he may die:
 But twenty thousand Cornish bold
Will know the reason why!'

Chorus: And shall Trelawny live? , etc.
